SignalFire Installs Their 20,000th Wireless Node in the North American Oil Field, Providing Wireless Asset Connectivity

Company maintains impressive reliability record for its products

Hudson, MA – SignalFire Telemetry has reached a major milestone by shipping its 20,000th wireless node.  The company reached this goal this week by shipping a Sentinel unit to one of its distributors: TechStar, based in Houston, TX.  SignalFire’s CTO, Scott Keller, commented, “Shipping 20,000 systems is a good milestone, but we are especially proud of our record of reliable performance.  We have maintained an extremely low field-failure rate from all causes—less than 0.15%—including warranty and non-warranty. Reliability is our number-one design driver for our equipment.” This reliability rate translates into roughly 50,000 node-years of operation with almost no interruptions.

SignalFire manufactures wireless telemetry equipment used in oil and gas fields throughout the U.S. and Canada. Customers use its products to connect sensors to the Internet via wireless communication links in remote monitoring and control applications. Examples include tank level, tubing and casing pressure, pipeline monitoring, and chemical injection control as well as remote shutdown applications.

One of the more popular wireless nodes is the SignalFire Sentinel. Battery-powered, the Sentinel family of nodes extract and, then, transmit data from a variety of sensors via a wireless mesh network back to a gateway where data is available via a Modbus RTU or TCP interfaces. The Sentinel will interface with virtually all sensor types commonly found in the oil field, including analog, Modbus, Hart, digital output, thermocouple, turbine, potentiometer, and others.

Rated to Class 1 Division 1 and 2 hazardous location standards, the SignalFire product line is uniquely positioned to take advantage of the widely varying monitoring and control environments found in the modern-day oil field. The equipment is oil field-proven, rugged, and reliable – a must for this type of application.
